About Fitzwilliam College

Fitzwilliam College is a dynamic, welcoming international community at the cutting edge of research, wellbeing and sustainability set in the most verdant grounds in Cambridge. Founded in 1869 to broaden University access, we are an international community committed to ensuring our 750 undergraduate and postgraduate students, whatever their background, can fulfil their potential and make the most of the incomparably rich opportunities offered here.

At the heart of the beautiful College grounds is a fine Regency house once home to Charles Darwin’s widow. Consistent with the College's motto 'The Best of the Old and the New', this is also a forward-looking place. Most of its award-winning buildings date from the 1960s onwards, including some of the best student accommodation in Cambridge and a state-of-the-art auditorium - a venue for plays, concerts, debates and lectures - and the new, superbly equipped 24/7 Olisa library. Students live in rooms in College (many en suite) or in College houses very nearby throughout their course. Our beautiful gardens, including our new edible potagers, are there for all to see.
