Introduction

  • This route is from the Maxwell Building to the Allerton Building, along The Crescent.
  • This route is approximately 800m and should take around 10 minutes to walk.
  • The main hazards on this route are uncontrolled road crossings and busy roads.

Outside Access (Maxwell Building Main Entrance)

  • This information is for the entrance located at the front of the building.
  • The main door(s) open(s) automatically (away from you).

    • The width of the door opening is 86cm (2ft 10in).
    • There is a second set of doors.
    • The door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).

    • The width of the door opening is 137cm (4ft 6in).

    • To the left of both sets of automatic doors there are double manual doors 138 cm wide which open towards you (shown in photograph 2).

Area Between the Maxwell Building Main Entrance and the Ramp and Steps

  • This area has a paving slabs surface and is slightly uneven.
  • To access the ramp, follow the path straight ahead then to the left from the automatic door.

Ramp down from the Maxwell Building Main Entrance

  • The ramp has a moderate gradient and a concrete surface.
  • It is 120cm wide and has handrails both sides.

Steps from the Maxwell Building Main Entrance

  • The steps are in front of the entrance.
  • There are 6, medium height, marked steps with handrails on both sides.
  • These steps can be bypassed by using the ramp.

Area in front of Maxwell Building

  • After the ramp or steps, head left towards The Crescent.
  • This area has a brick block paving surface, which is slightly uneven and has an easy upward slope.

Crossing the Service Road to the Maxwell Building Blue Badge Bays

  • Just before the crossing, there are bollards, 169cm apart.
  • There is a dropped kerb with tactile paving at the kerb edge at the road. The road has a zebra crossing marked on it, and a moderate slope up, then down.
  • On the far side there is a dropped kerb, although it still has a shallow step up. It does not have tactile paving.

Continuing To The Crescent

  • After the crossing, the path has a tarmac surface with a moderate slope up then down.
  • This stretch of path ends at the dropped kerb with tactile paving at the crossing for the Peel Park Campus exit road.

Crossing the Peel Park Campus Exit Road

  • At the tactile paved dropped kerb, turn right to cross the campus exit road.
  • The road is level and has a tarmac surface.
  • There is a dropped kerb with tactile paving on the far side.

Path along The Crescent

  • After the crossing the path has a tarmac surface, slightly uneven with easy slopes.

Crossing the Peel Park Campus Entrance Road

  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides of the road.
  • The road is level with a tarmac surface.

Continuing along the North Side of The Crescent

  • After the crossing, the path continues along The Crescent.
  • The path has a slightly uneven tarmac surface, then tactile paving as it passes a crossing and then back to tarmac with an easy slope up.

Path Past Bus Stop

  • The path then passes behind a bus stop.
  • It has a brick block paving surface here, with an easy slope up.

Path past the Peel Building

  • Past the bus stop, there is an easy slope as the path goes back to tarmac, which is slightly uneven.
  • There is an area of tactile paving as the path passed a crossing.
  • Past the crossing, the path is tarmac again, with an easy then moderate slope up as it passes the Peel Building.

Crossing the Peel Building Service Road

  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving both sides with a slight lip up on the far side.
  • The road has a tarmac surface which is uneven with a moderate slope leading down to the right as you cross.

Continuing along The Crescent

  • Past the crossing, the path has a tarmac surface, uneven in places with a moderate to steep slope up.

Crossing University Road Exit

  • There is a dropped kerb, without tactile paving and a slight lip down, on the near side of the crossing.
  • The road has an uneven tarmac surface, with a moderate slope up.
  • There is a dropped kerb with tactile paving on the far side.

University Road Central Reservation

  • The central reservation has a tarmac surface with a moderate slope up, uneven in places.

Crossing University Road Entrance

  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
  • The road has an uneven tarmac surface.

Area in front of Salford Crescent Station

  • After crossing University Road, turn left and pass the front of Salford Crescent Station.
  • This area has a tarmac surface with a moderate slope up.

Path past the Station and over the Railway Line

  • This path has a tarmac surface, with a path up then down.
  • There is also a bus stop on the bridge and the path past this has a brick block paving surface.
  • Towards the end of the bridge is a line of tactile paving for a road crossing to the left.

Path down to the Albion Way Crossing

  • Over the railway bridge, take the path to the right, which leads down to the crossing for Albion Way.
  • This path has a tarmac surface, which is uneven and has a moderate to steep slope down.

Crossing Albion Way

  • There is a traffic light controlled crossing here, with the button 102cm high.
  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving both sides.
  • The road has a tarmac surface, with a moderate slope to the right as you cross.

Path around the Frederick Road Campus

  • After the crossing, turn left and follow the tarmac path round.

Statham Street

  • When you get to Statham Street (which leads into the Frederick Road Campus), turn right and follow the path into the campus.
  • This path has an uneven tarmac surface and there is a dropped kerb where it passes a crossing.
  • Due to a sign on the path, it is 103cm wide at it's narrowest.

Pedestrian Entrance into the Frederick Road Campus

  • At the end of Statham Street there is a gate, 144cm wide, to access the campus.
  • A 141cm wide tarmac path leads to bollards.
  • Beyond the bollards, the area has block paving surface with an easy slope to the left.
  • To access the Mary Seacole Building turn right in this area.
  • Otherwise, continue straight ahead.

Crossing the Frederick Road Campus Road

  • There are dropped kerbs with tactile paving on both sides.
  • The road has a zebra crossing marked on it, with a tarmac surface and an easy slope up.
  • On the far side of the crossing, turn left to access the Brian Blatchford Building.
  • Otherwise, continue straight ahead.

Path up to the Allerton Building

  • The path up to the Allerton Building has a block paving surface and a moderate slope up.

Allerton Building Front Courtyard

  • At the top of the slope you enter the courtyard, with a block paving surface and easy slopes throughout, including in front of the main entrance.

Outside Access (Allerton Building Main Entrance)

  • This information is for the entrance located on the far side of the courtyard.
  • The main door(s) open(s) automatically (towards you).
  • The door(s) is / are double.
  • The width of the door opening is 154cm (5ft 1in).
