Access Guide
Introduction
- Central Park is a linear park located on the Greewich Penisula.
- It is owned by the Greater London Authority.
- It is bounded by West Parkside and East Parkside.
- It runs from John Harrison Way in the south, close to the Greenwich Peninsular Ecology Park.
- To the north it reaches the pedestrian area at the O2 complex.
- The park is not fenced and is open 24 hours a day.
- There is street lighting on the main paths.
- At the time of our visit (May 2014) the main continuous step-free path next to East Parkside was partially closed.
- There are alternative step-free paths along West Parkside and diagonally across the park.
Location
- The venue is situated within the centre of the area.
- This venue is situated in Greenwich Peninsula.
- The venue is not in a pedestrian area.
- There is a bus stop within 150m (164yds) of the venue.
- The nearest mainline station is Westcombe Park / Charlton.
- The nearest underground station is North Greenwich on the Jubilee Line.

- The Emirates Airline (cable car) service, crossing the Thames to Royal Docks, is next to the park.
- North Greenwich Pier for the riverboat services is also located next to the O2.

- There is unrestricted free parking at the retail park, accessed from Busby's Way/ Peartree Way.
- Bus services run from this car park, alongside Central Park towards the O2.
Park Entrances
- There are many locations where the park can be entered from the roads which form its boundary.
- The entrances do not have gates.
- The entrances and paths are wide enough for all wheelchairs and electric mobility scooters.
- Where the park is crossed by a road there are dropped kerbs.
- These generally have tactile paving.
Inside Access (Main Paths - East Parkside)
- The main park path runs parallel with East Parkside.
- It is a wide path with a smooth firm surface.
- It is level or with easy slopes.
- At the time of our visit (May 2014), a large section of this path was closed because of building work next to the park.
- Running close to and parallel with the main path is a smaller path.
- This appears to be three paths next to each other, with a medium unmarked step between them.
- The highest level is intended to be the continuous footpath.
- It is generally level or with easy slopes.
- There are two locations where the path is interrupted by a medium step which is not overcome by a ramp.

- The middle level is interrupted by concrete bench seating and in some sections the hard surface is replaced by grass.
- The lower level is interrupted at regular intervals by tree planting, which blocks the full width.
Level Change (East Path)
- There is a ramp or slope to access this service.
- The ramp or slope is permanent.
- There is a level landing at the top of the ramp.
- There are steps to access this area / service.
- The steps are located on the upper level path.

- From the opposite direction, the position of the ramp forms a step in the path that cannot be bypassed.
Level Change (Route to River Way from East Parkside path)

- The steps are located leading to River Way from the south.

- Arrving from the north, there is a similar set of 7 steps.
- These steps are shallow.
- They do not have handrails.
- River Way is a small cul-de-sac where The Pilot public house and hotel is located.
- There are uneven cobbled surfaces on the steps and the paths leading from them.
- The main path continues level to the east of the steps.
- There are also paths with easy slopes from the East Parkside path linking with West Parkside.
- These paths can be used as an accessible route to River Way.
West Parkside Path
- There is a second linear route along the west side of the park.
- This path has some easy slopes.
- The surface is of compacted granular material and is rough in some areas.
