Rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, the Newcastle Hospitals is a multi-awarding winning provider of quality healthcare spanning secondary, tertiary (specialist) and community services for both children and adults.

We put patients at the heart of everything we do by ensuring we deliver safe, high quality cutting edge healthcare in first-class facilities.

One of the largest and most successful teaching hospitals in England, our 14,500 strong workforce delivers some of the highest numbers of nationally and internationally recognised specialist services in the UK - all dedicated to providing healthcare at its very best with a personal touch for each and every patient we see.

We are extremely proud to be at the forefront of healthcare practice in many specialist areas with a pioneering tradition which runs through everything we do. We have a number of nationally recognised centres for healthcare excellence in clinical sites across the city and beyond, with key areas of expertise including the Great North Trauma and Emergency Centre; the Great North Children’s Hospital (home to one of only two ‘Bubble Units’ in the country for children with severe immune system problems); the Northern Centre for Cancer Care; the Institute of Transplantation; North East & North Cumbria Genomic Medicine Centre; the Regional Cardiothoracic Centre; and one of the largest Maternity and Special Care Baby Units in the country. Other specialist services include neurosciences, burns and plastics, renal, dental and fertility.

Overall, we care for a population of over 3 million people across the North East, North Cumbria and beyond and are also committed to working in partnership to deliver seamless care to patients close to home and promote healthy lifestyles.

Our trailblazing research in partnership with Newcastle University, as part of the Newcastle Academic Health Partners, is advancing scientific thinking and clinical practice in areas as important to all our future generations as stem cells, genetics and “ageing and vitality”. In fact our national and international reputation in research and development was recently endorsed when we topped the NIHR’s Clinical Research Network’s league table for the sixth year in a row. This accolade recognised how we have carried out more research programmes and clinical trials than any other NHS provider, demonstrating our commitment to developing new, effectives treatments for our patients of today, and the future.
