Central Bedfordshire is a great place to live and work and is home to around 250,000 people living in 105,000 households.

The area is diverse, with picturesque villages, hamlets and historic market towns and is a highly desirable place to visit. The area has a great range of local attractions, including the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, and the Shuttleworth Collection. There is a also a wide range of pubs, caf├ęs and restaurants to suit all tastes, and extensive parkland and open spaces such as Dunstable Downs and Marston Vale Millennium Country Park.

Central Bedfordshire Council is committed to giving disabled people of all ages, as well as their families, friends, colleagues and carers, the confidence and freedom to make informed decisions and be part of their community. I am therefore delighted that the Council and DisabledGo have worked together to create this detailed online Access Guide. This guide provides information about access to over 1000 venues across the area, ranging from Council buildings which are essential to local communities to the prominent tourist attractions. All the venues have been chosen by the local community for the local community and visitors.

I am very grateful to all the people with disabilities, carers and voluntary organisations for taking the time to attend our two community consultation events in July 2011. Their feedback and suggestions were invaluable in helping to ensure that we include a good range of venues to suit everyone's needs and interests.

I hope that this access guide with its extensive photos and features will be a key tool for all our visitors, residents and local disability and community groups. All the information has been collected in person by a team of trained surveyors.

As a council we are committed to improving our services and assisting the community we serve. We hope that you will find this information valuable and would welcome your feedback.
