Arun District Council
Arun is a beautiful and diverse district of sea-side towns and rural villages. It has places steeped in history and heritage alongside areas of outstanding natural beauty. Arun District Council is committed to making it easier for everyone, especially for disabled people, to enjoy everything the area has to offer.
DisabledGo has helped us meet this commitment and we are delighted to have worked with them on this web-based access guide. We hope it will liberate disabled people, their families, assistants and friends and empower everyone to enjoy living in, working in or visiting Arun.
By providing detailed and accurate information about venues across the district to a standardised format, disabled people will be using a system that they know is accurate, that uses familiar standards and that they feel comfortable navigating. This is what makes DisabledGo such a valuable contribution to the lives of disabled people.
The DisabledGo project has provided the District Council with an opportunity to develop a service which we believe has the potential to start to tackle the feelings of isolation and exclusion so often experienced by disabled people. At the same time it will assist local service, business and tourism providers to reach out to thousands of new customers.
As part of the access guide to the district we have included information on popular pedestrian routes for visitors and residents:
- Route 1 maps out a journey from Bognor train station to the Esplanade
- Route 2 takes you from Littlehampton train station to the East Pier.
- Route 3 takes you from Broadmark Lane Car Park to Rustington Museum.
- Route 4 takes you from Broadmark Lane Car Park to the Seafront.
- Route 5 takes you from Arundel Train Station to Arundel Castle.
- Route 6 takes you from Arundel Castle to Arundel Cathedral.
You can find lots of useful information in these guides such as: ground surfaces, dropped kerb's, tactile markings and any potential barriers that may need to be negotiated. We hope you find them useful.
Please let us know what you think of this guide, especially if it has helped your enjoyment of a visit to our beautiful district.
