Introduction

Railway Approach/London Bridge Street to St Thomas Street

  • Turn right on reaching Railway Approach and continue for 120m past the Railway Approach National Rail Station entrance as shown in photograph 2.
  • Railway Approach merges to London Bridge Street.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving with the occasional manhole cover.
  • There is a slight downwards gradient towards St Thomas Street. This can be seen in photograph 6.
  • Continue past the Shard Viewing Gallery to reach St Thomas Street
  • As you reach St Thomas Street there are bollards with widths of 116cm with a strip of tactile paving in front of them. This is shown in photograph 8.

Cross St Thomas Street

  • There are tactile dropped kerbs on either side of the road.
  • The surface of the road is tactile and the height of the controls for the crossing is 117cm.
  • The lights produce an audible crossing signal.

Great Maze Pond

  • Continue along Great Maze Pond for approximately 40m.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving with the occasional manhole cover.
  • In the centre of the pavement there are concrete squares surrounded by cobbled paving.

Great Maze Pond - Collingwood Street

  • Continue along Great Maze Pond.
  • After 40m you will come to a road. Continue along Great Maze Pond by taking the path to the right of the drop kerb and continue for another 50m.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving with the occasional manhole cover.
  • There is a slight gradient heading downhill towards the road.
  • There is then a series of four lamposts in the middle of the pavement as you progress.
  • The first lamp post has a clearance of 136cm on either side.
  • The second lamp post has a clearance of 116cm to the left and 164cm to the right.
  • The third lamp post has a clearance of 134cm to the left and roughly 130cm to the right, this is dependant on the bicycle parking.
  • The fourth lamp post has a clearance of 144cm to the left and over 150cm to the right.

Great Maze Pond - Guy's Hospital Main Entrance

  • Turn right for 10m.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving with the occasional manhole cover and street lamp.
  • After 10m Turn left for 35m to reach the Guy's Hospital main entrance.
  • There is a slight uphill gradient to reach the entrance.

    • There is a small lip on the threshold of the entrance, with a height of 2cm or below.

    • There is a touch button on the revolving doors which slows them down and makes them accessible for wheelchair users. The button is 86cm high from the floor.
