Area Between the Maxwell Building Main Entrance and the Ramp and Steps

  • This area has a paving slabs surface and is slightly uneven.
  • To access the ramp, follow the path straight ahead then to the left from the automatic door.

Ramp down from the Maxwell Building Main Entrance

  • The ramp has a moderate gradient and a concrete surface.
  • It is 120cm wide and has handrails both sides.

Steps from the Maxwell Building Main Entrance

  • The steps are in front of the entrance.
  • There are 6, medium height, marked steps with handrails on both sides.
  • These steps can be bypassed by using the ramp.

Area in front of Maxwell Building

  • After the ramp or steps, head left towards The Crescent.
  • This area has a brick block paving surface, which is slightly uneven and has an easy upward slope.

Crossing the Service Road to the Maxwell Building Blue Badge Bays

  • Just before the crossing, there are bollards, 169cm apart.
  • There is a dropped kerb with tactile paving at the kerb edge at the road. The road has a zebra crossing marked on it, and a moderate slope up, then down.
  • On the far side there is a dropped kerb, although it still has a shallow step up. It does not have tactile paving.

Continuing To The Crescent

  • After the crossing, the path has a tarmac surface with a moderate slope up then down.
  • This stretch of path ends at the dropped kerb with tactile paving at the crossing for the Peel Park Campus exit road.

Path along The Crescent

  • At the dropped kerb, turn left and follow the path along The Crescent.
  • The path has a tarmac surface, with a line of tactile paving by the crossing plus some manhole covers, including a grid. The surface then becomes concrete block paving, with a brick block paving edge next to the road, with regular manhole covers.
  • The path is mainly level, but slightly uneven in places. At the time of the survey (August 2017) some of the vegetation along this stretch of the route was overgrown and overhanging and encroaching onto the path.

Passing The Bus Stop

  • Just before the Crescent Oldfield Road bus stop, there is an area of tactile paving marking the end of the on road cycle lane.
  • There is a pillar in the middle of this path and overgrown buddlia encroaching on the path.
  • After this, the path returns to a concrete block and brick block paving surface past the bus stop, to another stretch of tactile paving, marking the point where the cycle lane rejoins the road.

Continue to the Corner of Adelphi Street

  • Past the bus stop and tactile paving, the path has a tarmac surface with an easy slope down. Pass the entrance to the Adelphi House car park and Old Pint Pot pub, which has steps and a steep slope.
  • Just before you reach the corner, there is a crossing. The path surface changes to a mixture of brick block and concrete block paving, with tactile paving as you pass the crossing.
  • At the corner, the path surface is brick block with an easy slope down.
  • Past this, there is another crossing for Adelphi Street. This has the same surface as The Crescent crossing.

Adelphi Street to Adelphi House

  • Past the crossing, the path has a brick block then tarmac surface.
  • It is mainly level but slightly uneven in places.
  • As the path reaches the side of Adelphi House, at the end of the brick and railing wall, there is a gate, 96cm wide, on the left hand side. This leads to the ramp to access the main entrance to Adelphi House.
  • Please see the separate guide for Adelphi House.
