Getting To The Hospital

  • By Road View
    • Peterborough City Hospital is situated off Bretton Gate which is to the North West of Peterborough City Centre, just off the A47. The hospital is clearly signposted from all major routes which include the A47, the A1139 and the A15. If you are dropping someone off at the hospital there are allocated drop off points, located near to most entrances to the hospital.
    • The main car park is located directly outside the main entrance to the hospital. Additional car parks are located throughout the hospital grounds, outside all entrances. As you enter, please take a ticket from the entrance barrier. You need to keep your ticket with you and pay at the pay station on your way back to your car. Designated Blue Badge car parks are not barrier controlled and are located outside the main hospital entrance, the Haematology/Oncology entrance, the Emergency Care entrance, and the Women's and Childrens Unit. Parking is free for Blue Badge holders. If space is not available in the Blue Badge car parks please park in any barrier controlled car park and present your ticket and Blue Badge to the main reception desk for validation prior to leaving the hospital. Parking is free for all cancer patients. Please present your ticket to the Haematology/Oncology or Radiotherapy reception desk for validation prior to leaving the hospital.
  • By Bus View
    • There are onsite bus stops, including one which is located close to the main entrance. Buses do not stop at the bus stop outside the main entrance between 07:30 and 09:00 and 16:30 to 18:00, there is an alternative bus stop (near the traffic lights), a short walk from the Main Hospital on the Hospital campus. There is an electronic bus timetable situated in the Main Atrium. You can use Traveline to start to plan your journey by bus.
  • By Train View
    • The nearest station is Peterborough which is 1.9 miles away. The main bus station is opposite the Railway Station. There are regular buses to the Hospital. To view the route use the Google Maps link in the Useful Links section below.

Getting Help and Assistance

  • There is a Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at the hospital.
  • The Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is located on Level 0, between the Atrium and Core A lift.

  • Comments View
    • 'Sign Live' is a system using IPads which enables BSL sign language to be used 24 hours a day in the emergency departments without the delay of waiting for an interpreter.
    • The dog toilet area does not have wayfinding signage to it. It is access by following the access roads towards the car park for Robert Horrell.

Getting To (Ward B5)

  • Ward B5 is/are located on Level 2, in Core B.
  • Access to Ward B5 is via the Haematology/Oncology Unit entrance.
  • After entering via the Haematology/Oncology Unit entrance, proceed past the Haematology/Oncology reception and enter the main hospital building. Follow the corridor and turn right, continue to follow the corridor to the left. Turn right to the lifts on the right and take the lift to Level 2. On exiting, take the corridor immediately ahead. Continue along the corridor to the end and bear right. Ward B5 is directly ahead.
  • There is step free access, via lift, to Ward B5.
  • Ward B5 is approximately 30m from the Core B lift.
  • There is a/are manual, double door(s) which may be difficult to open between the Core B lift and the department/service.
  • Wayfinding signage is provided.
  • There is some flooring in corridors which is shiny and could cause issues with glare or look slippery to some people.
  • There is some flooring in corridors which includes patterns or colours which could be confusing or look like steps or holes to some people.

  • Stairs View
    • Signs indicating the location of the stairs are clearly visible from the entrance.
    • There are manual, double doors which may be difficult to open to enter and exit the stairwell on all floors.
    • The floors which are accessible by stairs are G, 1, 2, 3, 4.
    • There are 15+ steps between floors.
    • The height of the step(s) is/are between the recommended 15cm and 18cm.
    • The going of the step(s) is/are between the recommended 30cm and 45cm.
    • The steps are clearly marked.
    • The steps do have handrails.

  • Signs indicating the location of this lift are clearly visible from the entrance.
  • The lift is approximately 40m (43yd 2ft) from the Haematology/Oncology Unit entrance.
  • The lift is a standard lift.
  • Staff do not need to be notified for use of the lift.
  • The floors which are accessible by this lift are G, 1, 2, 3, 4.
  • Clear signs indicating the facilities on each floor are provided on lift lobby landings.
  • There is a clear level manoeuvring space of 150cm × 150cm in front of the lift.
  • Lift doors do contrast visually with lift lobby walls.
  • The external controls for the lift are within 90cm - 110cm from the floor.
  • The colour contrast between the external lift controls and the control plate is poor.
  • The colour contrast between the external lift control plate and the wall is fair.
  • The clear door width is 108cm (3ft 7in).
