Introduction

  • The distance between the City University (Stop UN) and the University Building is approximately 215m. This should take around 3 minutes to complete. The journey involves gradients that are easy and moderate. The surfaces that will need to be overcome are block paving, brick block paving, tactile block paving and tarmac. Some pavements may be congested.

City University (Stop (UN)

  • The City University (Stop (UN)) serves routes 4 and 56.
  • The bus stop has bench seating.
  • The bus stop has a cloistered roof.
  • Along the route you will pass City University (Stop (US) which is located close to Northampton Square and will be passed along this route. It has the same facilities and serves the same routes going in the opposite direction.

Bus Stop (UN) to Goswell Road

  • Turn towards Moreland Street on exiting the bus stop and continue for 25m until you reach the pedestrian crossing across Goswell Road.
  • The pavement is block paving with the occasional manhole cover and there is a slight uphill gradient.
  • There is a small section of brick block paving as you reach the tactile paved drop kerb for the pedestrian crossing.

Goswell Road to Ashby Street

  • Cross Goswell Road and turn left for approximately 70m until you reach Ashby Street.
  • At the pedestrian crossing across Goswell Road there are tactile drop kerbs either side of the road and a level central island.
  • Traffic approaches from the right on the near side and from the left on the far side of the road.
  • The controls are at a height of 102cm on the near side, 95cm on the island and 98cm on the far side.
  • There are rotating cones present.
  • After this, turn left for approximately 70m to reach Ashby Street.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving with the occasional manhole cover.
  • There is a slight downhill gradient.
  • After 35m you will pass the Goswell Road entrance to the Tait Building.
  • 40m from the crossing, you will pass the City University (Stop (US)) which provides access to the same routes as the City University (Stop (UN)) but is for buses going in the opposite direction.
  • After this continue on for approximately 30m.
  • On reaching Ashby Street, turn right down it.

Ashby Street to Northampton Square

  • Head along Ashby Street for approximately 80m.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving with the occasional manhole cover.
  • As you enter Ashby Street the width of the pavement is only 120cm. This area can be seen in photograph 1.
  • There is a slight gradient towards the road as you head down Ashby Street.

Northampton Square to University Building Main Entrance

  • At the end of Ashby Street, turn to your right and head towards the main entrance to the University Building.
  • The surface of the pavement is block paving.
  • There is a slight uphill gradient.

Outside Access (Main Entrance)

    • The main door(s) open(s) automatically.
    • The door(s) is / are single.
    • The width of the door opening is 204cm (6ft 8in).

    • There is an alternative entrance to the left of this entrance which opens automatically towards you. The entrance has a width of 164cm.
    • There is a swipe-card to use this entrance and an intercom at a height of 110cm.

University Building

  • There is level access throughout the University Building via lifts.
  • The building provides level access into the Drysdale Building via lift on the ground floor.
  • Level access into the Drysdale Building and the Tait Building are on the first floor. Ramped access into the College Building is also on the first floor.
  • Services include a cafe/cafeteria facilities, Student Services, library facilities, teaching rooms and lecture theatres.
  • There is no designated parking for this building.
