  • Northgate Street can be accessed The Cross and the Eastgate Street junction.
  • Northgate Street become pedestrianised at 10.30 daily.

Northgate Street Overview

  • When you enter Northgate Street from The Cross junction there is a cobbled surfaced road to the centre.
  • The pathways either side of the road are yorkstone paving with a slight gradient going up the street.
  • At the edge of the pathways there is a step into the road (15cm high).
  • Going up Northgate Street from The Cross junction, the pathway to the right is 2m wide fronting the shop fronts.
  • The pathway to the left hand side is 2m wide but there are 2 steps (15cm high) to access the shop fronts (shown in photographs 3, 4, 5 and 6).
  • There is ramped access to the shops fronts at the beginning and end of the pathway (shown in photographs 7 and 8).
  • Northgate Gate Row East can be accessed via stepped entrances along Northgate Street also at the corner of Eastgate Street.

Northgate Street Row East Entrance

  • Comments View
    • Access to Northgate Row East can be gained via stepped access at The Cross junction (shown in photograph 1).
    • There are 15+ deep steps with handrails on either side to access The Row.
    • At the top of the stairs you need to turn right to access Northgate Row East.
    • Further along Northgate Street is a stepped entrance with deep steps, with handrails on both sides.
    • This entrance gives direct access to Northgate Row East (shown in photographs 10, 11, 12 and 13).
    • Access along the shop fronts is via a slight sloping pathway, 2m in width. The surface of the walkway varies from timber, concrete and asphalt.
    • There are low level ceilings above The Rows.
    • Step free access to Northgate Row East is via the entrance located on Godstall Lane.

Godstall Lane Step Free Access

  • The entrance at Godstall Lane has a paved stone entrance with an easy slope. The entrance is 282cm wide with a bollard to the centre.
  • The passage way is on a slight slope and has a surface of yorkstone paving.
  • The width of the passage way is 282cm, reducing in width to 98cm halfway down.
  • At this point there is a slight slope leading onto the entrance for Eastgate Row North and Northgate Row East.
