Wakefield College

Welcome

Wakefield College has a proud and rich history of providing education and training since 1868 and is the largest provider in the Wakefield District. The College has in excess of 10,000 students enrolled onto a wide range of courses across three campuses.

The College also has a successful commercial training arm – Services to Business - which provides bespoke training solutions to hundreds of businesses each year. It offers a varied range of courses that are designed to meet the needs of businesses, excellent training solutions, employee training and staff development, and is proud of being acknowledged as one of the top training providers in the UK, having received the Training Quality Standard.

The College plays a leading role in regional regeneration and a new state-of-the-art learning facility - the skillsXchange - is now open at Glasshoughton, offering skills for employability locally and regionally. The planned redevelopment of the Wakefield Campus will bring a modern, vibrant learning environment into the heart of the City for Sixth Form and Higher Education students.

Wakefield College has had a number of notable successes in recent times. This year alone the College was voted the Best Public Sector Employer in Yorkshire by the Sunday Times whilst Ofsted inspectors were full of praise, rating the College ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ in 22 of the 23 areas they inspected. The College’s A-level students recorded a pass rate above 95% for the sixth year running whilst its adult learners swept the board at the West Yorkshire Lifelong Learning Network (WYLLN) by scooping five awards – more than any other college in the region.

Please note that during the academic year 2010/11 construction works will be taking place on the Margaret Street Campus on and around the main reception area.
