The University is a thriving, friendly institution which attracts students from all over the UK and has strong links with the community in Derbyshire and beyond. We’re unique in that we offer further and higher education, catering for all age groups from 14 to 94 and beyond.

With 2 main campuses in Derby and Buxton, we have taken the lead in creating a successful modern University, rising to the challenge of widening participation and placing students at the heart of what we do. We have been at the forefront of developing flexible modular study and e-learning. This is backed by an ambitious estates strategy which will modernise existing buildings and teaching facilities.

Behind all we do is a “no compromise” approach to quality. That’s been proved by our strong academic performances and excellent audit reviews. As a result we were shortlisted for the Times Higher University of the Year award in 2007.

We are very proud to be the first University in the Country to have been successful in achieving the Investors in Diversity Standard.
Two years ago we committed to the four standards that make up the award: Committing, Learning, Developing and Improving. During this time we developed a clear strategy and action plan and committed to a range of initiatives, activities and developments across the University that demonstrated our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion with staff, students and other stakeholders.
