Tyne Metropolitan College is delighted that Ofsted has judged both its provision for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities and support for learners’ physical, personal, social and emotional needs to be outstanding.
Over the past two years TyneMet has made substantial capital investments in its two campuses. Both libraries were completely revamped, including the installation of a lift in the Academy library to ensure access to all three floors; the Coast Road refectory and café were totally refurbished; the Sixth Form Academy quad has been entirely remodelled to provide a peaceful outside place for students and very welcome link corridor was constructed to protect students moving between buildings, from the elements.
More recently, thanks to generous funding from the DDA, improvements to the accessibility in and around both campuses have resulted in the vast majority of main doors now being automatic.
Access to assistive technology at TyneMet is also good and the college continues to invest in this area as well as its facilities for learners; two-thirds of its classrooms are now fitted with high specification classroom technology to support its teaching and learning.
TyneMet is committed to equality of opportunity for all. It welcomes people with disabilities and is proud to display the ‘Positive about Disabled People’ symbol.
TyneMet is proud of its curriculum offer which provides as many people as possible with access to learning and education no matter what stage they are currently at.
