Thurrock & Basildon College

Welcome

Thurrock & Basildon College has maintained its commitment to removing barriers to learning and ensuring that the needs of our communities and learners are met. Our policies and procedures ensure that everyone is respected, welcomed and supported no matter what their ethnicity, nationality, gender, disability, age, sexuality or religious belief.

It is the College's mission to ensure that it is explicit that having a diverse workforce and learners from different backgrounds not only makes business sense and is a moral obligation, but that it is also accepted by all those who work, learn and visit the College. It is a work/learning environment that will not tolerate harassment, discrimination and victimisation.

Our commitment to promoting equality and diversity is at the centre of everything we do to ensure that all individuals are welcome and recognises that everyone is different and respected equally. This is clearly outlined in our Equality and Diversity Policies and Anti-Bullying Policy.

The Equality and Diversity Committee and the Corporation monitor the College’s progress on equality and diversity which we have continued to fully embed into the curriculum and service areas. Our ‘Inclusive’ culture has developed further as a result of the Equality and Diversity targets owned by all College Managers and shared amongst staff, which include the Equality and Diversity Impact Measures (EDIMs) which are embedded in the Quality Improvement Plan.

DisabledGo accreditation is one of our Strategic Equality and Diversity targets for 2008/09.

The College has received reaccreditation for ‘Positive About Disabled People’. The symbol is awarded by Jobcentre Plus to employers in England, Scotland and Wales who have made commitments to employ, keep and develop the abilities of disabled staff.
