The Royal Liverpool Hospital

The Royal Liverpool University Hospital has over 50 wards and more than 850 beds.
The hospital is also the main accident and emergency department for Liverpool.

The hospital provides major acute services such as cardiology, respiratory care, general surgery and urology which are based within the hospital, together with regional and national specialist services in nephrology, renal transplant, renal dialysis, ophthalmology, haematology, bone marrow transplant and vascular surgery.

Our research and development portfolio is one of the largest portfolios of clinical research in the North West with over 500 clinical research projects covering many disease areas including cancer, gastroenterology, oral health, stroke, ophthalmology, infection and pharmacology.

The hospital is also considered one of the UK’s leading cancer centres.
We provide cancer care and treatment for over 20 different cancer types.
We also have a world class radiology department with three CT scanners and three MRI scanners.
A PET-CT scanner is also available.

The Liverpool Broadgreen Hospital

The hospital is the main location for all our elective general, urological and orthopedic surgery, diagnosis and treatment, together with specialist rehabilitation.

In 2006 we opened the state-of-the-art barn theatre which forms part of our wider commitment to create a urology diagnostic and treatment centre at Broadgreen Hospital.
The new theatre has led to changes in working practices with consultants able to run parallel operating tables to ensure optimum use of theatre capacity.

Liverpool Dental Hospital

The Liverpool Dental Hospital occupies a self-contained modern building.
It has undergone a series of major refurbishments in recent years which have significantly extended surgeries, teaching clinics and patient waiting areas.

The hospital has approximately 150 dental units, including six teaching clinics of up to 20 units each, consultation and teaching suites for all the dental specialties and its own dental technical and histopathology laboratories.

The hospital caters for a variety of dental health needs including surgeries for dental extractions, minor oral surgery and designated clinics for the treatment of medically compromised patients and patients with latex allergy.

In addition there is a general anaesthetic extractions surgery and recovery area and operating facilities for day case patients requiring treatment under general anaesthesia or intravenous sedation.

Specialist departments include Restorative Dentistry (Conservation, Prosthetics, Periodontology), Paediatric Dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral Surgery and Oral Medicine and a Consultant-led Dental Sedation Unit.
