Welcome

Welcome to Northumberland's new DisabledGo Access Guide.

Northumberland is a rural county which has more castles than any other English county and a host of attractions from Country Houses, Roman Forts and Golden Sandy Beaches. The vast majority of the remaining sections of Hadrian's Wall Heritage Site can be found in Northumberland with five of the eight excavated forts. This combined with quaint market towns, offering good shopping, restaurants and parks makes Northumberland a good place to visit, work and live. We are proud of our county and would like to make sure that everyone can enjoy and visit as many of these attractions as possible.

The Council has worked in partnership with DisabledGo and local Disability Organisations to produce an access guide to 1,000 places in Northumberland. This aims to provide disabled people and their families with the information they need on whether places are accessible for their individual needs. The guide will make it easier to find information on places to visit and Council buildings and will enable more disabled people to participate in local activities.

The guide also aims to promote awareness of the needs of disabled people and encourages organisations to become more inclusive by improving access to their buildings and services.

We hope this site will be useful to you in exploring what Northumberland has to offer.
