NHS Suffolk is the first primary care trust in the country to attempt such a comprehensive survey of healthcare access for people with disabilities and make this information available to patients and carers.
Working with Suffolk’s two hospitals, Suffolk Community Healthcare and the Mental Health Partnership – NHS Suffolk asked DisabledGo to assess all the places where healthcare is delivered in the NHS Suffolk’s area for accessibility to make this guide. Patients, and their carers, will be able to make more informed choices about the services they use so their experience of healthcare will be more comfortable and dignified. In total, around 600 detailed surveys of disability access have taken place.
All types of healthcare provision is included – pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, mental health buildings, GP practices, opticians and dental practices.

NHS Suffolk – About us
NHS Suffolk buys, procures and manages healthcare services for a population of around 600,000. NHS Suffolk has a budget of £905million in 2010-11.
NHS Suffolk aims to improve health and wellbeing. It works with local authorities, the voluntary sector and other partners to reduce health inequalities and helps to develop sustainable communities.
NHS Suffolk commissions (buys) healthcare from GP practices, pharmacies, dental practices, opticians, specialist care centres and hospitals. The private sector provides some services such as access to doctors and dentists out of normal working hours, community outpatient and other services. NHS Suffolk also commissions from Suffolk Community Healthcare. These services include the management of community hospitals, community dentistry, podiatry and a range of other specialist services. Mental health services are commissioned from Suffolk Mental Health Partnership Trust and ambulance services from the East of England Ambulance NHS Trust.
A key responsibility of NHS Suffolk is to develop strategies to prevent illness and promote wellbeing.
