Newham College

Welcome

Newham College of Further Education is one of the largest general further education colleges both nationally and in the Greater London area with over 20,000 full and part-time students.

Many of the students are local, and over 80% are aged over 19 on entry with an average age of 31.

Newham College of Further Education has become one of only a small number of general further education colleges nationally that has recently been judged 'Outstanding' by Ofsted.

A recently published report deemed the College's quality of provision, and Equal Opportunity policies, as outstanding, in addition to emphasizing many key points including the fact our learners respect one another and their teachers.

The report also highlighted Newham College's guidance and support for learners is outstanding, 'with a good range of specialist welfare services in place to support the very diverse and often complex needs of learners'.

The findings by Ofsted are reinforced by an up to date Matrix assessment that praised Newham College for 'placing the customer at the centre of everything we do', and the 'enthusiasm of all staff'.

We have very clear and transparent disability policies, and actively promote the fact we embrace those with disabilities into the College.

The Equality and Diversity Steering Group has members who represent staff with disabilities and regularly meets to ensure the College fulfils its commitments as a Positive about Disability symbol holder and promoting Disability Equality.

Yearly Disability Focus Groups are held with staff and students with the feedback feeding into the College Disability Equality Action Plan.

The College has a vision of 'a learning revolution spurring local economic and social regeneration, and full participation by local people'.

The College's Mission is 'to expand and improve lifelong learning' and it aims to achieve this by making an open access provision, relevant to the diverse range of needs in its local communities, and regardless of prior attainment.

The College guarantees applicants a place on a course suitable to their needs.

Innovative approaches include a comprehensive community education programme resulting in a 300% increase in learning opportunities in the last decade.

Whatever a student's goal, whether it be improving skills, further study, getting a job or promotion, going to university or self-improvement, Newham College Of Further Education will support them right the way through with high quality services and expert assistance.
