Welcome

Welcome to Newark & Sherwood District Council's DisabledGo Site

Foreword by Councillor Tony Roberts, Leader of Newark & Sherwood District Council

I am proud of Newark and Sherwood and according to a recent survey, so are most of our residents. 80% of people say they are satisfied with Newark and Sherwood as a place to live. But on top of that it is also a great place to work and visit.
However a large part of our community, residents and visitors are people with a disability. In fact, nationally there are almost 10 million people with a current disability according to the Family Resources Survey 2002/2003. So, with that in mind, it is ever more important that we ensure people with a disability and their family/carers either living, working or visiting our district, can easily access information on what is available to them.

We are delighted to be involved with the DisabledGo, and in particular the Access Guide, which helps disabled people and their family/carers make informed decisions on what to do in the District. As a large rural area containing the market towns of Newark, Ollerton and Southwell, Newark and Sherwood offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants, leisure facilities and tourist attractions and we would like to encourage people to participate in as many of these as possible, irrespective of their disability.
