Welcome to Greenwich - a Beacon Council for Improving Accessibility
Greenwich Council is committed to improving the health and well-being of everyone who lives, works and learns in our borough.
This new guide is part of our continuing commitment to improving accessibility across all council services, a commitment which saw Greenwich awarded Beacon status for Improving Accessibility in 2008/09.
The guide will help people with disabilities, their carers, families and friends find out whether shops, pubs, restaurants and hundreds of other popular Greenwich venues and public buildings are accessible to them, before they set off.
We know that people with disabilities often face isolation and it can be very difficult to find out whether places are accessible. We hope that this site will help the estimated 35,000 local people living with disabilities in Greenwich, as well as the many thousands of people that work in and visit the borough.
Improving access has opened up the borough for residents and made Greenwich the destination of choice for thousands of visitors. Our role as a host borough for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games has given us a great opportunity to inspire more people to take part in sport and physical activity. This is why we've improved access to our sports and leisure facilities - such as the Eltham Centre, with a specially adapted gym to help disabled people exercise.
We will continue to strive to meet the needs of people living with disabilities, their carers, and all those who work, learn, live and visit Greenwich.
