The purpose of the event was to highlight Government commitment to implementation of the UN Convention.

The 150 delegates drawn from disabled peoples’ organisations listened to speeches from the outgoing Minister, Jonathan Shaw MP, the ODI’s director, Tim Cooper, Neil Crowther from the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Chief Executive of the UKDPC, Jaspal Dhani.

The afternoon comprised structured table discussions and feedback to the conference as a whole. A successful day was concluded by Tim Cooper thanking Gregory and remarking that ‘you can tell when you have a good Chair: the event finishes on time’.

Gregory commented, ‘It was a good day with a lot of ground covered. The ongoing involvement of disabled people in the monitoring and reporting processes is key.’
