Getting Here

  • By Road View
    • There are two entrances into the Peffermill Playing Fields from Peffermill Road.
    • There are two car parks available off Peffermill Road.
  • By Bus View
    • Peffermill is situated close to the city centre and can be reached using public transport via bus routes 2, 14, 21, 30 and 42.
  • By Train View
    • The Peffermill Playing Fields are 2.2 miles from Edinburgh Waverley Station. It should be noted that some of the walking routes may feature paths with steep gradients or steps given the landscape. Edinburgh has rail links throughout the UK. The East Coast mainline, which links Edinburgh and London King’s Cross, is the UK's fastest intercity railway: you can travel between the cities in around 4 hours. If you prefer to travel overnight, a sleeper service runs between London Euston and Edinburgh Waverley 6 nights a week. There are great links to other cities too. The journey to Glasgow only takes 45 minutes, while York, Newcastle or Aberdeen can be reached in about 2 hours. All trains arrive at Waverley Station in the centre of the city, although some trains also stop at Haymarket, which is a smaller station in the West End.

Useful Information

East Car Park Entrance

  • There is a heavy gate that opens away from you in the East Pavilion Car Park which has a width of 114cm. The entrance leads to the Edinburgh University Association Football Pitch.

Access Around the Playing Fields

  • There is step free access to most of the facilities around the Playing Fields. However this often involves taking indirect routes.
  • There are numerous uneven slopes throughout the playing fields.

Edinburgh University Association Football Pitch

  • The Edinburgh University association football pitch is located next to the east pavilion. It has a stand which has step access and seating available at the front.
  • Seating towards the rear is accessed via medium steps.

3G Pitch

  • The entrance to the 3G pitch is via a heavy door that opens outward with a width of 118cm.
  • There is an easy step at the base of the doorway.
  • There is an alternative entrance via a double gate as shown in photograph 3. It can only be accessed via a steep ramp.

Astroturf Pitch

  • The Astroturf Hockey Pitches are accessed via heavy gates with a width of 284cm.
  • There is level access between the pitch and the Laurie Liddell Pavilion which also offers a viewing gallery.

Cricket Nets

  • The cricket nets are accessed by a heavy door with a width of 84cm.
  • The cricket nets are accessed via eight medium steps.

3G Five a Side

  • The 3G five a side pitches are accessed via heavy gates that open towards you with a width of 84cm. There are alternatively double gates to access some pitches.

Running Track

  • There is level access to the running track from the Laurie Liddell Pavilion.
  • There is an alternate entrance at the other side of the Running track which is accessed via a heavy gate that opens away from you. It is accessed by four medium steps.
