Getting Here

  • High Street is located within the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon.

Parking

  • BLUE BADGE PARKING
  • Parking along High Street is only permitted to one side.
  • There are 2 designated areas along High Street for Blue Badge parking at the Junctions of Sheep Street and Bridge Street.
  • The designated parking bays are 18m long x 270cm wide.
  • There is space for 3 cars in each designated parking area.
  • PUBLIC PARKING
  • There are 3 public car parks within walking distance of High Street, these are;

High Street Overview

  • High Street is located within the town centre, and is a continuation of Chapel Street and Union Street.
  • High Street has retail shopping units to either side.
  • High Street is not pedestrianised and traffic flowing in both directions.
  • High Street can get very busy and congested.
  • The pathways along the street are concrete paving and measure 3m wide fronting the shop fronts. Some stores have pavement signs placed close to the building line (shown in photographs 4 and 5).
  • There are no pedestrian crossings along the street at any of the junctions.
  • There are dropped kerbs at the junctions some with tactile paving.

High Street / Chapel Street / Sheep Street / Ely Street Junction

  • This junction can become very busy at times with vehicles waiting to turn into the surrounding streets.
  • The junction from Sheep Street / Chapel Street has dropped kerbs to either side of the pathways with no tactile paving.
  • There are dropped kerb with tactile paving to the opposite side of the road approaching High Street from Chapel Street.
  • At the junction from Sheep Street, outside the Town Hall, there is a dropped kerb with no tactile paving to cross over to High Street.

High Street / Bell Court

  • The Bell Court entrance is located on High Street next to Debenhams.
  • The entrance way has no doors and measures 6m wide with bollards to the centre.
  • Bell Court has retail shopping units, restaurants, and a cinema.
  • There are accessible and standard toilets available in Bell Court for public use.

Five Way Junction Bridge Street, High Street, Wood Street, Henley Street and Union Street Crossings

  • At the centre of the town is a busy junction where five of the main roads connect. Traffic is busy in this area at all times (shown in photographs 1-4).
  • From the top of Bridge Street, clockwise, are the junction with High Street, junction with Wood Street, pedestrianised junction with Henley Street, junction with Union Street and the controlled crossing across Bridge Street.
  • The High Street junction has dropped kerbs each side in contrasting colours but no tactile warnings. There are written instructions on the roadway indicating the direction of the traffic and a central reservation (shown in photographs 5 and 6).
  • The Wood Street junction is very busy as it is the main bus route out of the town. Again, there are contrast colour dropped kerbs but no tactile warnings. There are written instructions on the roadway indicating the direction of the traffic and a central reservation (shown in photographs 7-10).
  • The Henley Street pedestrianised junction is usually traffic free but does have delivery vehicles crossing at sometimes of the day. There are dropped kerbs with no tactile warnings and automatic bollards to control the traffic (shown in photographs 11-13).
  • Union Street junction has a block paved vehicle crossing table to give priority to pedestrians and to slow traffic (shown in photographs 14-16).
  • Bridge Street has a pelican controlled crossing with tactile warnings, central reservation, audible and visual indicators and rotating tactile cones on the control boxes (shown in photographs 17-20).

Public Toilets

  • There are no public toilets available along High Street.
  • There are accessible and standard public toilets available in Bell Court.
  • Entry to the toilets is free and no Radar key is required.
  • These toilets are open daily until 19.00
  • The toilets can be accessed from the entrance to Bell Court from High Street. They can also be accessed from the entrance located on Ely Street from the junction of High Street / Chapel Street and Sheep Street.
  • From the junction on High Street turn right into Ely street and the entrance to Bell Court is 50m along to the right.
  • The toilets are to the left as you enter.
  • There are public toilets available on Waterside.
  • A Radar key is required to access the accessible toilet.
  • There is a charge of 20p to use the standard toilets.
