Fort Knebworth Adventure Playground

  • Fort Knebworth is a large adventure playground in the shape of an old fort.
  • There are several entrances to the fort with opening widths from 100cm to 170cm. See Photograph 1 and 2 for the two larger entrances.
  • The fort is made up of various slides, ropes, cargo nets, swings, walkways and an obstacle course.
  • There are several level changes within the fort with many ramps/slopes and steps.
  • The surface of the ground is mainly wood chip, which is soft under foot.
  • There is a selection of equipment suitable for disabled visitors, including a nest swing, Inclusive Orbit (a roundabout with its own wheelchair station) a water play area, Gravity Bowl and loudspeakers.

Four Person Slide

  • The four person slide has multiple lanes and is suitable for young visitors.
  • The slide is quite steep and is raised in areas that would potentially fasten the speed.
  • Access up to the slide is via a steep hill and steps.

Corkscrew Slide

  • The corkscrew slide is next to the four person slide and has two different slides to use (corkscrew and vertical).
  • Access up to the slides is via 15+ deep steps, with a handrail on the right going up.

Bouncy Castle

  • There is a bouncy castle in the grounds. This may not be suitable for wheelchair users of a person with mobility impairments.

Picnic Area

  • The Picnic Area has several covered picnic shelters as shown in photographs 1, 2 and 3.
  • The tables in the covered shelter have a height of 74cm.
  • The picnic area surrounds Fort Knebworth.
  • The benches are located on a grassed area and may be on a slope due to the ground.

Fort Knebworth Refreshment Area

  • The refreshment kiosk is to the rear of Fort Knebworth and has a serving hatch which is 105cm in height.
  • The kiosk serves hot and cold snacks and drinks during opening hours.
  • There are several picnic benches to the left of the kiosk, with a height of 74cm.
  • The ground surrounding the area is grass with some uneven surfaces.

Play Area Surrounding Fort Knebworth

  • There is a zip wire, obstacle course and many children’s play equipment.
