Getting Help and Assistance

Security Gates

  • The security gates are located to the left after exiting the lift.
  • There is step free access to the security gates.
  • The assistance lane is located at the far left of the gates.
  • The width of the assistance gate is 93cm.
  • The height of the bar code scanner is 94cm.
  • There is a member of staff available to provide assistance.
  • The width of the standard gates is 55cm.

Security Checkpoint

  • The security checkpoint hall has wheelchair access at each pair of desks.
  • Passengers with disabilities who need to be checked are usually taken through desks 1-2 (A) or 9-10 (E). The X-ray equipment at 9-10 is larger and can be used to check certain aids, additionally there is more space and more privacy at the end desks.
  • Passengers with wheelchairs, mobility aids, assistance dogs, prostheses, and equipment such as cochlear implants and pacemakers may be checked in a different way.
  • Some passengers may need additional privacy, for example people wearing medical equipment or those with autism and other mental health needs.
  • The process is quick and discreet and family groups are not split up.
  • The standard security metal detector is 74cm wide and every pair of desks has a bypass gate at 105cm wide for access if required.
  • Beyond the detector is a security scanner pod.
  • The passenger stands in the pod with their feet on the yellow prints on the floor and then they adopt the position illustrated.
  • On leaving the scanner the staff may need to manually check anything which has shown up (for example zips, belts etc).
  • Any passenger who would have difficulty standing, adopting the position or any other reason can be manually checked with a handheld scanner.
  • It is preferable, but not essential, for those passengers to use gates 1-2 (A) or 9-10 (E).

Accessible Toilet(s) (Post Security - Left Hand Transfer)

  • There is an/are accessible toilet(s) available.

    • This accessible toilet is located after the security area and before World Duty free.
    • There is step-free access into the accessible toilet.
    • This is a shared toilet.
    • A key is not required for the accessible toilet.
    • There is Braille, tactile, pictorial and written text signage on or near the toilet door.

    • The door opens outwards.
    • The door is easy to open.
    • The door is locked by a locking handle.
    • The width of the accessible toilet opening is 86cm (2ft 10in).

  • Toilet Features View
    • The dimensions of the accessible toilet are 155cm x 220cm (5ft 1in x 7ft 3in).
    • The accessible toilet does have an unobstructed minimum turning space of 150cm x 150cm.
    • The lighting levels are moderate to good.
    • There is a lateral transfer space.
    • As you face the toilet pan the transfer space is on the left.
    • The lateral transfer space is 86cm (2ft 10in).
    • The transfer space is obstructed by a waste disposal bin.
    • There is a flush, however it is not on the transfer side.
    • There is a spatula type lever flush.
    • There is a dropdown rail on the transfer side.
    • The contrast between the dropdown rail(s) and wall is good.
    • There is a/are wall-mounted grab rail(s) available.
    • As you face the toilet the wall-mounted grab rail(s) is/are on the right.
    • There is not a vertical wall-mounted grab rail on the transfer side.
    • There is a horizontal wall-mounted grab rail on the opposite side of the seat to the transfer space.
    • The contrast between the wall-mounted grab rail(s) and wall is good.
    • The contrast between the walls and floor is good.
    • There is an emergency alarm.
    • The emergency pull cord alarm is fully functional.
    • There is not a red flashing fire alarm beacon within the toilet.
    • Disposal facilities are available in the toilet.
